Eleri Allen (Loughborough)
Saturday 12th of March 2022
Over the weekend of 12-13 March 2022, SCOGUI ran our annual incident night hike for local Scouts, Guides, Explorers, and Rangers from across the Loughborough district/division. We welcomed over 130 participants which, with a record number of leaders and helpers, made this our biggest event yet! We are looking forward to next year’s event.
Over the weekend of 12-13 March 2022, SCOGUI ran our annual incident night hike for local Scouts, Guides, Explorers, and Rangers from across the Loughborough district/division. This is an event we have run for many years and, after we had to resort to an online substitute event last year, we were pleased to revive the traditional in-person format for 2022.
We welcomed over 130 participants which, with a record number of leaders and helpers, made this our biggest event yet! Teams arrived on Saturday evening to pitch tents and plan their routes, before setting out on a 7 or 10-mile hike from Sutton Bonington Scout and Guide HQ, passing through 7 incident bases on their way. Activities varied from navigation and logic puzzles, to jam sandwich making!
SCOGUI members fought the exhaustion while waiting for the last team arrive back (which was shortly after 2am) and the results were revealed in a ceremony on Sunday morning after cooked breakfasts all round...and a not-so-popular 5:30am start for our kitchen crew!
Many thanks must go to all the SCOGUI volunteers, Leicestershire County Scouts for helping us with comms – and to the leaders and helpers from Loughborough District Scouts and Girlguiding Loughborough for all their help and support over the weekend.
We can’t wait for next year’s event!
